Bath House, Holborn Viaduct

Construction Period: March 2008 – February 2010

Contract Value: £80 Million

AGA’s involvement: CDM Coordinator

The site, Snow Hill, is located at the junction of Farringdon Road, Holborn Viaduct and in The City of London.  The main external skin of the building is in essence a simple curtain walling façade with floor to ceiling glazing and a slim spandrel disguising the floor slab creating a mainly glazed building over which are configured vertical fins, creating a more layered and complex visual effect.  The shape of the curtain wall consists mainly as two straight part facades to the north and south curving into an ‘atrium’ around the Holborn Viaduct entrance; then creating a flowing curve of ‘brush’ strokes around the west.

The retail units to the upper ground floor on Holborn Viaduct, and lower ground/ground level to Snow Hill and Farringdon Road have a full height glazed façade with signage boards behind the windows to avoid the use of external signage.  The main office entrance has a full height glazed screen wall from ground to 6th floor, with an internal atrium to the south entrance.  On the top levels, the fins extend 1100mm vertically to form a guard rail to terraces at each level which is usable to tenants and is not solely for maintenance.
